Amazing views of Azerbaijan’s Lahij village (35 photos)
Lahij mountain village is in in Ismayilli district of Azerbaijan. It was founded in the 4th century. Lahij is a historical and architectural reserve, located at an altitude of 800 meters above the sea level. Getting to Lahij isn’t easy, as the road is not for amateur drivers. In the village itself there are houses built from river stones. Rural roads are paved with stone slabs.
Lahij is famous for its artisans and craftsmen, carpet weaving and copper cookware are being developed here. There are local souvenir shops here as well, where things made by local craftsmen using ancient methods, are available for sale. There’s also a local historical museum in Lahij where one can trace the ancient life and history of the village. Lahij also has several inexpensive hotels and guest houses.
As for the people in Lahij, there are around 20,000 residents here, who speak their own language, which originates from the Persian language. This is while many also speak Azerbaijani and Russian languages.
