Going green: electric cars in Azerbaijan (16 photos)
Despite than an overwhelming majority of cars in Azerbaijan run on gas and diesel, the country doesn’t lag behind in bringing innovations into an already established market.
American automotive and energy storage company Tesla Motors works in Azerbaijan and the company’s “green cars” are already being sold in Azerbaijan. In January 2015, Baku started to sell “Tesla Model S” cars.
During the inaugural European Games in Azerbaijan, in June 2015 Baku presented “Detroit Electric SP:01” to the public. One again, the importance of implementing ecologically-green projects in Azerbaijan was noted.
The Detroit Electric SP:01 is a limited-edition, two-seat pure-electric sports car that sets new standards for performance and handling in electric vehicles. The car boasts an impressive 155mph, 250km/h top speed and covers the 0-60mph sprint in 3.7 seconds* (0-100km/h in 3.9 seconds). The rear-wheel-drive SP:01 features a compact, mid-mounted 210kW electric motor, a lightweight, purpose-designed battery pack and carbon fibre bodywork fitted as standard. The SP:01 has an excellent power-to-weight ratio-contributing to its superior performance, driving dynamics and class-leading handling.
Also in June Azerbaijan started the implementation of installing numerous Electric Vehicle Charging Stations in Baku and all over the rest of the country. That proves Azerbaijan is seriously considering the possibility of using electric cars in the country to their full potential in the near future.
